Bea Ganz lived a perfectly normal life until she turned 20. She'd been studying English for a year, having moved from the smaller town of Tübingen to Berlin further north to attend university and was beginning to explore her sexuality, when her first depression hit like a smoke grenade that shrouded everything in a thick fog. From one moment to the next, she went from seemingly thriving to wilting, to getting admitted to a psychiatric ward - where she would continue to return almost habitually over the next ten years. Although being brought up in a religious household, she had never considered serving the church, yet on her 30th birthday, during a relatively calm period, Bea spontaneously decided to take up theology in order to become a pastor, and she moved back to the part of Germany she came from, to enroll at university in Heidelberg. After that, Bea's life took a turn for the better. Heidelberg suited her, theology suited her and not soon after having started classes, she met the five years older Renate who'd become her lover and life partner. Everything settled. At 36, Bea finished her candidate and started working for local churches in assisting capacity, until two years of working experience finally earned her a steady job at an Evangelical-Lutheran church on the outskirts of town. Nine years went by in something as close to blissful routine as anyone's allowed; Bea and Renate married and then Renate was offered a job in Berlin, a big opportunity, so after much discussion, they decided to move back. Bea found a job at Frauenkirche in the heart of old East Berlin and had to suddenly start over, earning her congregation's respect and acceptance. Along with her wife, she now lives in a small house in Klosterstrasse with a lovely, little garden, a stone's throw from a big, big hospital that Bea also serves, when needed, when called.
Besides serving as a minister, Bea helps people with her special powers of healing that she developed during the ten years she was in Hell, as she calls it, her depressions. She doesn't flaunt her healing or advertise, but when people are in need of soothing from pain, be it physical or mental, she can relieve them through touch and speech. It is an ability she uses extremely carefully, but not scarcely, because she believes they are gifts and that they are God-given and good. She had to go through Hell for a reason - to be able to lead other people out of that pit of flames. And since they don't work on herself, she knows, she still sporadically suffers from depressions, she will use it on those who are willing to receive or those who have no other choice but death left.

I've asked to be healed too often.
